Clemency Denied For Convicted Killer
Governor Huckabee Monday denied clemency for Liesa K. Davenport, a Texas woman convicted of stabbing her ex-husband to death with scissors.
Davenport was convicted of second-degree murder for the June 19, 2003, death of her ex-husband, 41-year-old David Hughes Kuykendall of Greenbrier.
Davenport's attorneys said she believed Kuykendall was sexually abusing her sons. In 2004, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death.
The Arkansas Board of Parole in May voted against Davenport's clemency request.
Huckabee also denied clemency to Arthur Hattison, who was convicted of killing two men during robberies in 1970. Hattison was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of robbery and was sentenced to life in prison.
The parole board in May voted against Hattison's request.
Huckabee rejected a total of 97 clemency requests Monday. The governor also commuted the sentences of four people, all convicted on drug offenses.
